Vigan City's Fiesta: A Joyous Celebration

Part and parcel of the Filipino culture are the festivals being celebrated in every town. One of most visited is the Vigan City because of how they celebrate their Fiesta. Vigan City's Fiesta is held in honour of St. Paul the Apostle, the city's patron saint, on 25 January each year. The street dancing, carnivals, food festivals, and arts and crafts fairs draw both locals and visitors, adding to the appeal of this UNESCO World Heritage City.
A different celebration starts the Vigan Town Fiesta just few days before it officially begins. Every January 22, there is a festival called Longganisa that includes a parade with a longganisa theme as well as other activities. Longganisa, one of the famous food in Vigan, and is an all time favorite breakfast to some Bigueños. The Longganisa Festival has always been a crowd-drawer, it is a streetdancing competition wherein participants  with their beautiful traditional costumes dance their hearts out to the tune of the Festival song, "San Pablo, Kamang ti ili" in honor of the city patron saint, Saint Paul. Participants from the different provinces in the northern region are also sent to compete in it, which makes it more exciting and fun! Now, I'll talk about the Vigan City's Grand Parade. While watching the parade, i know some of us felt overwhelmed and happy because finally, after almost 3 years of waiting, here it is! The Grand Parade was led by the Vigan City Mayor Bonito Singson together with his family and the councilors. The marching band of UNP also performed in it. Employees from different Departments also joined the parade, such as Pnp, DepEd, RedCross and, etc.. It was also attended by various establishments, such as JTC, 2B, Palawan, etc.. The people were having fun and ejoying vying for candies, bags, t-shirts and, many more thrown by the participants of the parade.

Parades and Streetdancing like this are well-known throughout the country and and some other countries abroad, that makes thousands locals and foreigns visit our town and attend events like those, up 'til now. It feels amazing to be able to watch a parade and experience a festival again after so many years. Events like these made me realize that it feels amazing to a bigueño, seeing visitors from other places enjoying it. It sure did made me proud of my dearest Vigan City.
